New Post: Show me what you believe
So often you will hear people, myself included, saying “I believe this” or “I think that” or “I know that.” When I hear people start talking about what they value and what they believe my ears perk up. If I know the person, I immediately start asking myself if I can validate what they are saying by how they have acted in the past.
One of my mentors, Dr. Greg Bourgond always talked about a belief, or value, was not really a true belief or value until you acted upon it repeatedly. If you said you believed something, he might challenge you and ask where you had demonstrated that value or belief in the past few months.
Recently in a post I talked about not being too busy to talk to someone. Today I was in a bit of a hurry to grab some coffee at Caribou and make my way into work after an early meeting. Low and behold someone said my name when I was in line. It was a co-workers son, Brandon, who I know through a number of connections. In my mind I was thinking about what I needed to do that day, and I quickly remembered my own value of trying to stay present and engage people regardless of my ‘business.’
I ended up having a great conversation with Brandon about branding and business and found out what he has been up to. It was a highlight of my day today.
Live what you say you believe. It just might surprise you how it will come back your way.
