New Post: Just Because
Sometimes in life you just have to say “What the …… heck” and go for it. Ferris Bueller influenced me probably more than any other movie character. I always wanted to be Ferris, not Cameron.
Growing up in Chicago we were all influenced by John Hughes’ movies and characters in a way that was hard to describe, but it was there. Losing John Hughes hurt because I felt like part of my adolescence died that day.
The last year more and more I try and clearly state what I think, take the emotion out of it when needed and leave it in when also needed. The person who goes through life playing it safe, sliding and gliding as my old boss used to say, I think will end up at a place that will not be = or > contentement.
I want to end up with nothing left to say. I want to say it all. I hope someone still listens.
Take a chance, seize the day, rinse, repeat.

Blog Post: Carpe Diem
Carpe Diem, seize the day, tomorrow is not guaranteed. What a treasure the last two years of my life has been with the addition of our son, JD, into our family. So many memories they are hard to count. One of the values I hope to instill into my little boy is to seize the day.
I have blogged about this in the past, but I am a huge advocate for making the most of every day, or as a friend of mine likes to say, “chasing daylight.” Are you chasing daylight? Do you get mad when the day is over because there was more you wanted to experience? Good.
Live the life you want to live, not what someone thinks you ought to. One of my favorite things in life is doing things that surprise people because they are not what everyone else is doing. Create your own path. Forge your own trail. Do it through your own gifting and passions and surround yourself with people who will challenge your growth.
My wife and I have a dream of living half the year in Kauai and half the year in Montana. I am excited to live out that dream at some point, but in the mean time I am not just going to sit around waiting for it to happen - I am going to embrace life today, now, here, with those who I travel through this journey with.
