New Post: No excuses - just action
Every industry has been under pressure the last few years from the global economic uncertainty. We all could share stories about why it is tougher where we are now, and how there is not a ton of hope for change.
I could do that, I probably have done that. But, I don’t stay there. I work in higher education. Graduate higher education. What has changed for us? Gone are the days of just hoping people will show up, max out their student loans and keep us in business. Students are asking why? Why should I do this? How will it help me?
I suppose people have always asked these questions, but they are stickier now. Schools who do not answer this question well will struggle and probably cease to exist. I am seeing it happen in our industry already.
Like I said earlier, you probably have stories from your own industry that you could share - so, what is the action you can help your industry take to not go down this path? At work there will always be people who make excuses. Oh, the market forces, oh we don’t have enough resources, etc. etc.
At the end of the day, control what you can control and make the best of it. If at some point you are really not being given a chance to succeed? Then it is time to go.
PS: If you are already there and infecting your organization as a highly disengaged employee? For the love of all that is holy - leave and leave now.
