New Post: Do something unique - or you will be replaced
I remember when I started college in the early 90’s my brother in law told me to get into computer programming. He said I would always have a job and it was a continually emerging market. He was right, but I was not interested.
Yesterday (20 years later) my friend is starting a business where he helps companies find programmers for emerging markets. What I love about this is two things, one my brother in law was right, and my friend is doing what we all should do in this new economy.
What did my friend do? He saw a trend, he came up with a business plan and is going to be successful in what he does. Can he be replaced? Maybe, but by the time he can be he already will have done well.
This is my thought - if you do something that can really be done by anyone - how safe is your job? How much safer are you (and probably fulfilled) if you do something unique that you create? As Seth Godin talks about, probably much harder to do, but way more fulfilling in the end.
Pushing forward -
